Turkey is in the midst of a confidence crisis
Turks have lost trust in their institutions, government and media, those who bet on a sustainable recovery will be disappointed
If the government is to be believed, the economy is recovering splendidly, while confidence in Turkey is soaring. Strange, then, that a host of polls reveal Turks in deep gloom verging on suicidal depression. These polls determine that economic distress is the leading cause of pessimism, with only a tiny minority expecting life to get better in 2020. Recent consumer confidence data confirms this view. Additionally, Turks have lost trust in their institutions, government and media. I use poll results to verify my findings and derive conclusions for the economy and politics.
