Geo-political risks will determine Turkish asset prices and subsequently the performance of the economy in 2020. Turkey inherited the threat of American sanctions, the Safe Zone conflict in North West Syria and a refugee problem through the years. Santa delivered new ones. In the Syrian province of Idlib, just under the nose of Turkey, Assad’s brutal assault is pushing close 300K refugees to the Turkish border. I Libya, Turkey’s friend the Grand National Unity government is threatened by Gen Hafter’s forces, in response to which President Erdogan promised to send military aid. In this video, I try to predict the end game in Idlib and Libya and the potential repercussions for Turkish economy and politics.
